Find Me Here At Your Feet Again

This week I am on vacation in Alesund, Norway, so I thought I would share a blog I wrote several years ago when I was visiting my son when he studied at Hillsong Church in Sydney, Australia.

I had the wonderful privilege of worshipping at Hillsong Church in Sydney, Australia this morning with my son, Nate. 

As you approach the front doors to the church there are picnic tables and food carts set up.  Coffee is being brewed, breakfast sandwiches made, and great fellowship is taking place. 

As you enter the church there are half a dozen individuals at the door to greet and welcome you.  Inside there is a buzz of electricity as people come in to find a seat.  Music is in the background, building in tempo and vibration.  The praise band walks on to the stage and the church erupts in worship, raising their hands to God, singing songs to Him. 

I notice that many of the songs we sing are Vertical and not Horizontal. 

Horizontal songs are songs that sing about God, about our Christian walk, like Amazing Grace, How Great Is Our God, Standing on the Promises.  These songs are important because they remind us of great truths and teach us about the God who loves us. 

Vertical songs are songs that we sing to God, Himself.  Vertical worship joins us with our Creator as we don’t simply sing about God but we sing to God!  We enter into relationship, conversation.

The praise band at Hillsong leads us in “Touch the Sky.”  The words echo off the walls of the church to the heavens.

The church sings “When I Lost My Heart To You” and the echo continues.

With hands upstretched, hearts bursting, Hillsong’s praise team leads us in “Even When It Hurts.”  The songs being voiced are prayers raised to God, connecting Him and His children.

Lord my heart burns only for You

And my soul waits only for You

And I will sing till the miracle comes

I will only sing Your praise

Even when the morning comes

Even when the fight is won

Let us take time in worship and in our homes to direct our songs, our words, and our hearts to the God who made us and sent His son to this earth to bring us life.  

We must not just talk about God but talk to God. 

We must not just learn about God but spend time with God, crawling up in His lap and worshipping Him. 

We must not come to church just to hear about God but we must come to church expecting to hear from God, to enter into conversation with Him. 

We must not simply take time thanking God for His blessings but we must take time praising God for who God is because He is worthy of praise.

Take time to worship God.  Sing praise to God.  Applaud and honor the Creator, not just on Sundays, but every day, every moment.  God is good!
