The Three Daily Disciplines : A Leadership Carol

Review 1

Drew Christian’s reimagining of Charles Dickens’ classic tale with the purpose of leadership development intrigued me. A Christmas Carol and its many movie versions is a story I already find highly enjoyable with its positive message of personal transformation. Drew takes this familiar tale of supernatural intervention to share his message of becoming an influential leader. These daily disciplines of curiosity, humility, and empathy can bring personal transformation and organizational transformation. Drawing from the Civil War era for his examples helps to show how timeless these principles are.

Bruce, our protagonist in A Leadership Carol, closely mirrors Scrooge's path to redemption, but through a journey faced with modern leadership challenges. Through this story we grasp the message that true leadership influence happens by being genuinely curious about others, having humble self-reflection, and demonstrating empathetic connection with those we lead. I've been inspired to examine my own leadership approach and to practice these three essential daily disciplines. Drew's concise book can be placed on your bookshelf right next to A Christmas Carol, with both books inspiring us to personal transformation.

Good leadership is a continuous growing process. With The Three Daily Disciplines, Drew M. Christian presents a captivating fable on leadership inspired by Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol. The story follows Bruce Engerston, newly appointed Director of Marketing at Turks Marketing Solutions. A few months into his new role, Bruce's team members begin to feel undervalued, affecting the organization's success. His life takes an unexpected turn during a visit to the Old Dominion Theater, where a mysterious man named Jacob guides him on a transformative journey to the Civil War era. He learns about curiosity and how it sparks innovation, collaboration, and growth within organizations. In his subsequent visits to the old theater, profound lessons in humility and empathy reshape Bruce's leadership approach, paving the way for his team's revival.

The Three Daily Disciplines is one of the most engaging books on leadership I've read in the past few years. Combining immersive storytelling with clear-cut lessons on leadership, Drew M. Christian offers an absorbing guide that is bound to appeal to business leaders, executives, and managers of all kinds of organizations. Curiosity, humility, and empathy are essential qualities any good leader must possess. With an engrossing narrative, Christian shows how these three disciplines are practically applicable in day-to-day scenarios and help drive teams toward attaining the organization's goals, ensuring its long-term success. Featuring historical personalities such as Ulysses S. Grant, Abraham Lincoln, and Harriet Tubman in key roles, this book offers readers the core principles of leadership. It also demonstrates how they enhance an organization's productivity and teamwork. It's required reading for all business leaders.
