The exploration by Dr. Christian into the impact of Jesus on our lives is particularly enlightening, as he discusses the meaningful changes that can happen when individuals invite the Holy Spirit into their hearts. A central theme is the importance of embodying the teachings of Christ, prompting readers to take immediate steps and to cultivate their faith on a daily basis rather than postponing their spiritual growth. It has certainly encouraged me to pursue a more meaningful and productive existence while working to elevate my virtues, and I believe it will evoke a similar response in others who come across it. One chapter that particularly struck a chord with me was the one discussing the distinction between working out and working on salvation. The guidance provided was exactly what I needed to hear, and I am grateful to the author for offering such wisdom. It’s refreshing when a book not only inspires self-improvement but also deepens one’s faith, reminding us that nothing can separate us from the love of God.

After immersing myself in this book, I was left with an enormous sense of love, gratitude, and motivation. This book is not just a read; it’s an invitation to reflect and act. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking renewal and a deeper connection to their faith, as it has the potential to uplift and transform lives.

Three Years: Making A Difference in The Time You Have Left… takes the reader through characteristics of Christ and examines their importance in development for the believer. While supported by sound scripture, respectable and pertinent authorities, and his own, sometimes confessional, experience, Drew Christian asks the reader to consider this journey as a means of working out one’s salvation. The book also includes study questions both for personal contemplation as well as group study. In all, it is a thoughtful, even convicting, presentation challenging the reader to become more like Christ.

5.0 out of 5 stars Valuable discipleship resource
Reviewed in the United States on October 6, 2024Dr. Christian shepherds us through seven virtues essential to the life of every believer, brought home through the humility of personal experience and the rebar of Scripture. Especially as someone in Dr. Christian’s opening reflective wheelhouse of 54-57 years old, I found this insightful, highly practical invitation to climbing (and re-climbing!) the ladder of virtues not only valuable reading, but compelling for immediate, refreshing daily life choices.
An excellent, user-friendly study guide for each chapter offers follow-through for individuals or discussion. I highly recommend this outstanding resource for Sunday School classes and discipleship groups of any stripe.

Three Years by Dr. Drew M. Christian reflects on the impact of his father’s sudden death and how it shaped his spiritual journey, leading to an intentional Christian life modeled on Jesus’ three-year ministry. He emphasizes the distinction between justification and sanctification, outlining a progression of virtues from 2 Peter 1:5-8—goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, mutual affection, and love—as essential to spiritual growth. Drawing on biblical examples and personal experiences, Christian highlights the cooperative process between divine grace and human effort in developing these virtues. He discusses the importance of self-examination, perseverance through trials, mutual affection within the Christian community, and the role of the Holy Spirit in transformation. The author stresses that spiritual maturity involves ongoing effort, faith, and alignment with Christ’s teachings to make a meaningful impact.
Three Years: Making a Difference in the Time You Have Left by Dr. Drew M. Christian is a thoughtful and well-written book that offers a meaningful look into spiritual perseverance and transformation through faith, grounded in both biblical examples and personal experience. Dr. Christian’s clear and engaging prose makes even some of the more complicated theological concepts accessible, as he emphasizes reliance on God’s strength in difficult times and the ongoing process of sanctification. The use of vivid metaphors, such as the mansion revealing flaws for growth, really enriched my understanding of spiritual maturity. Christian's discussion of virtues like mutual affection and agape love is particularly striking, showing how authentic relationships and selfless service are integral to faith. The balance between scriptural teachings and heartfelt storytelling gives this book a sincere and encouraging tone, making it an inspiring read for anyone seeking deeper spiritual development and a practical guide to living their beliefs.
